A LEED Gold Office Building
Location: Langley, B.C.
Client: B.C. Government Employees Union
Architect: David Wong
Area: 7,075 sq ft
BC Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU) is the province's largest public sector union. It was the first building in Metro Vancouver's Fraser Valley to receive LEED Gold (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). The open frontage pays homage to the welcoming gesture of open arms by Coast Salish peoples. Lodge poles, open glazing and stone symbolize the province's historic industries and natural beauty. A learning resource with information panels are designed into the welcoming hall. The building also provides meeting spaces with family areas on the BBQ terrace and dining space that oversees the adjacent stormwater detention pond. This pond was created to collect storm water run-off from itself and surrounding buildings. A feature water fountain was installed to circulate water to help mitigate algal and mosquito pest issues.
