Neighbourhood Boulevard Garden

A Vancouver Foundation Neighbourhood Small Grants helped facilitate a community building effort– a dozen families got together to convert portions of a city street into a multi-block "blooming garden". Up and down the street, sections of lawn were converted into personalized gardens for everyone to enjoy. A boulevard garden David Wong was responsible for, was planted with blueberries, strawberries, and flowering plants. A visual and edible treat for all passers by!

A number of participants' boulevard gardens have included a portion of space dedicated to grow Milkweeds (Asclepias species). Milkweed gardens aid Monarch butterflies who feed off its flowers. Monarch butterflies are valuable pollinators, but are in decline worldwide due to habitat loss, pesticide use, pollution, and environmental degradation.
